Isola del Liri è un comune italiano della provincia di Frosinone, detentore di un invidiabile record: è una delle poche città al mondo ad essere attraversata da una cascata. Una curiosità in più è che la cascata ad Isola del Liri non è solo una ma due, una più spettacolare, la Cascata Grande, e l’altra meno impressionante ma con il medesimo salto, la Cascata del Valcatoio. Entrambi i dislivelli sono di circa 27 metri ma, mentre la Cascata Grande cade praticamente a picco sulle rocce sottostanti, la Cascata del Valcatoio percorre un tratto di 160 metri ad una pendenza del 17% circa, condizione che la rende ideale per sfruttarla come generatore idroelettrico ma meno scenografica della sua gemella in paese.
Isola del Liri is an Italian town in the province of Frosinone, holder of an enviable record: it is one of the few cities in the world to be crossed by a waterfall. An additional curiosity is that the waterfall in Isola del Liri is not just one but two, one more spectacular, the Cascata Grande, and the other less impressive but with the same drop, the Cascata del Valcatoio. Both differences in height are approximately 27 meters but, while the Cascata Grande falls practically straight down onto the rocks below, the Valcatoio waterfall covers a stretch of 160 meters at a slope of approximately 17%, a condition which makes it ideal for using it as a hydroelectric generator but less scenic than its twin in the village.
